Crowns retained, yielded in Christmas hoops finals

The Lady Knights changed their team name to Mixx Plate but maintained their last year’s feat to retain their crown in a 44-38 victory over the taller cagebelles of Marianas High School in the U18 Girls Division.

In the U18 Boys, defending champions, G-Stars did not make it to the finals when Sonics left them behind 29 points during the playoff.

However in the finals, the Rollers who lost to the G-Stars last year, ended their thirst for championship as they defeated the Sonics, 58-52.

In the U14 Boys, the Little Sonics failed to defend their crown as they suffered the same fate as their older counterparts, in the hands of the younger Rollers.

In the U14 Girls, Hopwood kept the crown by pounding the Lady Hilitais, 63-17.

Mixx Plate 44, MHS 38

Last year’s MVP, Roxanne Duenas controlled the offense and lasted two halves of the game helping her team mates hold on to their lead.

He scored seven points including a three-pointer in the first half.

Nicole Lebria hit a three as she helped Mixx Plate keep the strong lead in the first half.

Coach Connie Camacho had to give Lebria some rest in the beginning of the second period and when she came back, she blasted another three-pointer to pull Mixx Plate away for a six-point win and finished with 14 points.

Mercedes Mesa took it a little easy in the first half but when Lena Guzman was helping MHS close in the second half, she sizzled with 12 of her 14 points to widen the gap again.

Kaylani Lebria and Dion Diaz added five and four points respectively.

Rollers A 58, Sonics 52

While Savali Talalemotu took care of the inside to keep the Rollers A strong in the first half, Brandon Aulerio bombarded the Sonics from the outside firing two of his three three-pointers in the second half to help secure their 58-52 victory.

Aulerio launched his first three in the first half and Talalemotu spread the lead wider with three straight successful jump shots.

Zack Tudela also helped control the offense scored 10 points and Ham Hambros who grabbed most rebounds added six points.

Leo Galarse led the Sonics with 18 points, Bryan Ajoste had 10 points and Tristan Ecalnea chipped in nine points.

Rollers A 48, Little Sonics 42

In the U14 Boys, Stacy Macaranas opened the game with two consecutive two-pointers, then kept the surge leading to younger Rollers A’s 48-42 win over defending champions’ Little Sonics.

With last year’s Top 10 scorers, Nevin Salem, Jack Aranda and Jed Villanueva scattering eight of their total points in the first half, the Little Sonics in the winning stance.

Jamark De Guzman and Angelo Limes backed Macaranas up pouring-in 11 points apiece to recover the lead.

Eric Dela Rosa and Toni Bai helped Macaranas defend the lead in the last few minutes of the game to ensure their win.

Hopwood Girlz 1 63, Lady Hilitais 17

Geraldine Castillo hit three-pointers three times and scattered 25 points in the court to help the Hopwood Girlz 1 defend their title in a 63-17 rout over the Lady Hilitais.

Castillo opened the first half of the game with four straight two-pointers and Kimberly Ocampo followed it up with two consecutive two-pointers.

Ocampo added six more points in the second half and finished with 16 points.

Charlene Gutierrez and J. Castillo added eight points apiece.
