Sunleader Market, which sells Chinese products, was jam-packed with people doing last minute shopping on the eve of the new year in the Chinese lunar calendar.
“Our family has been celebrating Chinese New Year for as long as I can remember,” Margarita Borja, a Garapan resident, said.
She and her husband wore red while buying firecrackers and fireworks at Sunleader.
The store management, for their part, are hoping for a better year as well as a better life for their clients.
2010 is the Year of the Metal Tiger.
Some Chinese students of the International Business and Professional College celebrated the new year in their home country.
“I hope my students will be able to catch up with the lessons they will miss,” Fuji Sionosa, an English intern instructor at IBPC said.
Yesterday, the pavilions along Beach Road were occupied by Chinese nationals and their families as well as other nonresidents celebrating the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.
“I hope the tiger will bring us good fortune and more customers,” said a Chinese vegetable vendor known by many as “Brother” or “my friend.”
“This is a great time to welcome the Year of the Tiger and celebrate Valentine’s as well,” Khunika Zhuan, a tourist, said.
