This project aims to unite libraries and the community through social networking using Facebook. Facebook is gaining popularity because of the accessibility and user-friendly features it provides. It is an ideal meeting place for people to talk virtually anywhere. Face book allows people with common interest to meet at anytime.
Libraries can benefit from the social networking technologies specially in promoting the library to the community. Librarians can be facilitators for healthy and open discussions for the community using the Internet. Libraries can conduct their book club discussions online, which enable others to participate including their peers, parents, experts and the community. Everyone can share their interest such as books, music, videos and pictures and have positive interaction with others virtually. Libraries can advertise their library programs and events inexpensively and effectively by posting information on their profile that other users can immediately read. It can also spark a lot of reading interest for others about featured books, news articles and Web site links.
