The registration started at 9 a.m. and the runners were divided into three categories: adult, youth, and child.
In the adult category there were 60 runners who signed up. For the youth category, 25 joined, while 13 registered in the child category.
The finish line was at the Minachom Atdao which is across from the Ada Gym.
“It was really exciting. It is nice to see the community come out and support the event. Especially to see the enthusiasm from the athletic community and also our children and family,” said SDA school public relations director Angie Perez.
The first runner to get to the finish line was Jack Kabirel who was sponsored by Safety First. He finished first in the adult category.
Kabirel has been running for 20 years and has completed over 100 races.
“Someone told me about the race that is why I joined,” he said.
Michitaka Yoshida finished first in youth category. An SDA school student, he “runs for fun.”
Allen Stafford was the first to get to the finish line for the child category.
He said he wants to be an Olympic runner.
“I feel good and I wasn’t even practicing too much. It’s my third run in two years,” he said.
The proceeds of the event will go to the Hope Run scholarship fund for school year 2010-2011.
“Their spirit of giving was inspiring and encouraging. We can reach our goal and with God’s help and strength we will reach it. This is a start where we want to bring 10 new kids each year through scholarship,” Perez said.
T-shirts were given to the first 30 runners who reached the finish line. Raffle prizes were also given to participants.
