Mobtasim Alam wins Hopwood Spelling Bee

Can’t? That’s fine.

As some of you may know, there are a few competitions going around at Hopwood Jr. High School.

One of those competitions is the one and only Spelling Bee.

Hopwood Jr. High School’s Spelling Bee this year was held on Dec. 9 in A2, Mrs. Kathy Barja’s room.

The coordinators were Mrs.  Barja herself and Ms. Arayanee Maratita, while Mr. Jonas Barcinas, the school principal, was the witness.

There were 30 competitors, ranging from grades 7 to 8.

Three spellers were able to reach the final destination and excel in their spelling skills: in third place, AnnJeline Manobat; second place, Jeffrey Centino; and the best speller was Mobtasim Alam.

Alam will be representing Hopwood Jr. High School when he competes on Guam.

Representing our school will definitely be a rewarding yet pressuring experience.

Mrs. Barja said: “The use of the Spelling Bee is to encourage students to participate so that they can gain the understanding of competing in a regional competition that will be held on Guam.”

To those who competed, they will be receiving special certificates in acknowledgement of their involvement in the Spelling Bee.

Congratulations to Mobtasim Alam and all the other participants of the Spelling Bee!
