The project will raise a scholarship fund for students who are financially incapable of attending the school.
“Our focus has been to bring a sense of community to our school. We want to open our circle of family to the entire community,” said SDA public relations director Angie Perez.
All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund for the year 2010-2011.
“We want to include the community in making that difference. We are asking all of our networks to take part in this event and be able to give a child a better future,” said Perez.
The event is going to be an annual activity and is part of the school’s goal to nurture children.
“Here they find a home where teachers actually take the time to get to know them and I think the reason for that is because all the staff are missionary teachers,” said Perez
SDA’s mission statement is “Live to learn, live to love and live to give.”
Through its scholarship program, the school wants to see more children getting a well-rounded education as well as spiritual and psychological support.
“We aspire to hit that mark. And once we hit that mark we want to go further. And this is how we are doing it, with the 5k Hope Run,” said Perez.
The SDA student association is sponsoring the event.
“If we never teach them how to apply that love and kindness then we are missing the opportunity to show them how to apply what they have learned,” said Perez.
T-shirts will be given to the first 30 participants that will complete the 5K run.
There will be a raffle for prizes and awards for all the participants.
The entry fee is $10 for children and $12 for adults.
Interested participants can register on Feb. 15 at the Garapan Fishing Base from 9 to 9:30 a.m.
