Groups unite to gear up youth basketball

It’s the aim of the PRTI Junior NBA and Junior WNBA to grow basketball, helping young people develop a passion for the game by providing them with the support and equipment to make the game fun and rewarding for all.

They work with more than 2 million players, parents, coaches and officials in Guam, Rota, Japan, Philippines, and the U.S. mainland.

The program gives DARE, GUTS, GREAT student athletes all sorts of amazing opportunities – from much-needed kit to competitions and master classes with some of the world’s best coaches and players.  The program is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 17.

In addition, two students from Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja were recognized S.T.A.R.(Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Attitude (Positive), and Respect)  Student Athletes.  Vicente Quinata was recognized as Male S.T.A.R. Student Athlete and Kish Doromal as Female S.T.A.R. Student Athlete.

Mr. Harry Masga of the Office of Congressman Gregorio”Kilili” Sablan presented the S.T.A.R. Athlete certificate on behalf of Congressman Sablan.

This is the 4th year the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA program is extended to Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja.  The program is headed by PRTI Director Edward Maratita, Jr. assisted by volunteer coaches and trainers of the Pacific Regional Training Institute Drug and Violence Prevention Division.

For their untiring support, contribution, and commitment, the PRTI and ESFDB DARE/GUTS/GREAT Student Body Association extend its appreciation to all the parents, friends, donors, CNMI U.S. Congressman Gregorio “Kilili” Sablan, Mr. Harry Masga (Rota District Office of Congressman Gregorio Sablan), Barrigada Vice Mayor June U. Blas (Guam), the Guam Fire Department, Paul and Kendra Tanaka (Hawaii), Jeffrey Sai (Hawaii), Major Jon Takamura (Hawaii), Captain Peter Wong (Hawaii), Kristine Koide (Hawaii), Honolulu Federal Credit Union (Hawaii), Bay Breeze Restaurant (Rota), and the Rota community for the support given to the students.
