Earth moving permits approved

These permits were issued with specific conditions in conformance with required statutes and regulations of the Republic of Palau.Permits are issued to assist the developers/contractors in reducing impact to the project surroundings while allowing the desired development to take place.

Ms. Elenita Brel was issued an earthmoving permit to construct a residential retaining wall in Ngerbodel, Koror State. The permit for Mr. Ken Tarkong and Emi Mizuta was approved after the Board considered that no significant impact will occur if earthmoving activities are allowed for them to fill a wetland area for residential purpose in Sechemus, Koror State.

The Board approved the request to amend a permit (PEA-100-09) for Bureau of Aviation, Capital Improvement Project (CIP) and Surangel and Sons Company, to allow for the construction of a toilet facility and to extend working hours to 9:00 p.m. for the Airport Apron Project. The Board approved this extended work hours, only if deemed necessary, in order to help ensure that the people and the environment are given adequate protection measures while constructing a public infrastructure in a timely manner.

Melwert Tmetuchel’s permit (PEA-055-10) was approved after he complied with the Board’s Order to pay a $50.00 fine and meet the permit requirements. One of the permit requirements was to ensure that the proposed restaurant project located in the area of Ngerbodel, Koror State, an area that is not served by the Public Sewer System, had an adequate toilet facilities to treat the wastewater. The Board also approved a permit (PEA-079-10) requested by Santos Olikong to pave the Parking Lot serving a store that connects to the public road in Idid, Koror State.The Board in permitting the earthmoving activities for this project, requires the owner of the facility to treat the stormwater runoffs from the property before water enters a pubic road ditch. Another permit (PEA-074-10) was given to Dixie Tmetuchel to build a new Retail Store and Coffee Shop with Toilet Facilities located in Ngerusar, Airai State.

The outcomes of these public hearings and other Board decisions will be made available in the near future.

A person with a valid EQPB permit is urged to follow all conditions issued as part of the permit certificate as one permit maybe issued incorporating regulatory requirements for earthmoving, sewage disposal, solid waste management, air quality management, water quality, hazardous waste, and others depending on the applicant’s plans and scope of the work to develop.
