Lujan case dismissed

Hillbroom, son of the late DHL founder Larry Hillblom, sued Lujan for legal malpractice, negligence, fraud, RICO violations and civil conspiracy.

Also named co-defendants in the lawsuit were attorney Barry Israel and Keith Waibel, co-trustee of the JLH trust.

The first amended complaint alleged a broad conspiracy among the three to defraud Hillbroom out of millions of dollars he received in connection with the settlement of his deceased father’s multimillion dollar estate.

The California court, however, ruled that it didn’t have general jurisdiction over Lujan.

“Indeed, Lujan only briefly attended school in California, maintains a mere passive website and   otherwise has no continuous and systematic contacts that approximate ‘physical presence’ in the forum   state, as is ordinarily required for general personal jurisdiction,” the court stated.
