Six schools participated in this year’s junior high school mock trial held in the federal courtroom at the Horiguchi Building on Saturday.
Camacho, who was the judge at the mock trial, commended the participants for their performance.
“I am impressed,” he said.
A lawyer, Camacho said the mock trial is a good way to educate students about how a trial takes place and “how justice is served.”
The participating students were from Rota Junior High School, Hopwood Junior High School, Grace Christian Academy-Rota, Tinian Junior High School, Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja-Rota, Mount Carmel School and Whispering Palms School.
Hopwood principal Jonas Barcinas said it was their first time to participate in the mock trial as he expressed his gratitude to his students for “doing an excellent job.”
The event is not a competition, but it helps students develop their skills for the annual senior mock trial contest, he added.
“This is my first time to join this mock trial and I am very proud that the former representative noticed us,” said Taylor Ann Hocog of Rota Junior High School.
Camacho praised Hocog for being an outstanding witness.
Hocog said she is proud that their four-month training paid off.
NMI Humanities Council executive director Scott Russell said the mock trial is an opportunity for junior high school students to develop knowledge about courtroom procedures in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.
