Taijeron is House legal counsel, again

Legislative Bureau Director Glenna S.P. Reyes announced in a memorandum Taijeron’s return as House counsel and Matthew H. Meyer’s transfer to the Senate to join Antonette R. Villagomez, the former House chief counsel.

“Mr. Taijeron’s knowledge and experience in the judicial, executive and legislative branches will be an asset to individual members of the House of Representatives, the Legislature as a whole, and to the Legislative Bureau. Please extend your cooperation to Mr. Taijeron as he transitions into his office,” Reyes told the members of the House.

Taijeron will work with a veteran attorney, John Cool.

Taijeron resigned as deputy attorney general less than three months after his appointment.

He received his bachelor’s degree in government and international studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, with honors.

He earned his law degree in 1998 from the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California.

He is licensed to practice on Guam and the CNMI.

Taijeron was a private attorney before moving to the CNMI to work as a prosecutor until his transfer to the House in 2008.

Reyes said Meyer will assist Villagomez in providing legal services to the nine senators.

Meyer obtained his law degree in 2000 and is a member of the Utah Bar Association.

Reyes said Meyer was a real estate entrepreneur for three years before moving to the CNMI to work for the AGO as a criminal prosecutor.

“Mr. Meyer began his legal career as a contract defense attorney at Colorado State Municipal Court. He was an adjunct professor at the National American University prior to becoming an attorney for the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Meyer’s legal career expanded further as a legal officer at Pristina Kosovo where he rendered legal services to international judges,” she said.

Meyer joined the Legislative Bureau as legal counsel for the House of Representatives in Jan. 2010.
