59,743 of 84,165 available room nights sold in March, compared to 50,658 of 85,259 available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were down slightly from $89.38 last year to $90.55 in March 2010.
For calendar year 2010, occupancy is averaging 76 percent and room rates are averaging $98.85. This compares to 73 percent occupancy and $99.99 room rate over the same period last calendar year.
The increase was attributed in part to the Korean economy recovery and staging of sports events such as Saipan Marathon, Xterra Saipan Championship, and Tagaman triathlon.
