4 NMI students awarded summer program scholarships

This year, the recipients for the CNMI are Alexis Hofschneider of Kagman High School, Chloe Hofschneider of Tinian High School, David Paek of Saipan Southern High School, and Mariana Quitugua of Rota High School.

“We had dozens of strong applicants for the DOI scholarships, making the selection process very difficult,” said Matt Randazzo, chief growth and strategy officer. “The chosen students are among the best and brightest for the CNMI and will likely lead their communities in the future.”

Alexis will attend the Georgetown Summer School Program, while Mariana will attend the Princeton Summer School Program. Both Chloe and David will participate in the Stanford Summer School Program.

Each winner will receive a full ride scholarship worth approximately $7000 to pay for any tuition-related costs to attend one of JSA’s summer schools. The scholarships are made possible due to the Junior State’s partnership with The U.S. Department of the Interior.

The students chosen demonstrated high-achieving grades, strong leadership skills, involvement in the community, and an interest in public service.

Besides the scholarship recipients, 28 other students from the CNMI were admitted into one of JSA’s summer school programs:

Grace Christian Academy: Brandon Lorenz

Kagman High School: Allyssa Arangorin, Patsy Lynn Jetley, and Elloise Lotoc

Marianas High School: Ignacio Dela Cruz, Monette Sanchez, and Kory Sablan

Saipan Southern High School: Carmen Borja, Soo Jin Choi, Doyi Lee, Zachary Sabla, and Hannah Isabel Shai

“We are delighted by the on-going support of Congressman Kilili Sablan, the Legislature, the governor’s office, and Education Commissioner Rita Sablan,” Randazzo said.
