Summer Reading program students to present dancing, cultural show tomorrow

Children’s library associate Erlinda Naputi told the Variety that the students are participants of the two-month “Make a Splash” Summer Reading and Cultural Fair the library is offering for the first time.

Naputi said  the students from the Cultural Fair classes will be wearing costumes they have learned to make during the past weeks.

“Different students will be wearing crafts and arts for the Carolinian culture and for the Chamorro culture,” Naputi said.

“We would like to invite everybody to come and watch the students perform,” she added.

Naputi said they have yet to decide whether the show will be held outside or inside the library,  but this will probably depend on the weather.

The library is holding two dancing classes spearheaded by the Wise Women Village Project of the Department of Public Health: one for 6-10 years old and the afternoon classes for those who are 11-13 years old.

The Summer Reading and Cultural Program of the Joeten-Kiyu Library started on June 22 and will run until Aug. 20,.

Activities include Reading Challenge, Read Aloud, crafts, movies, traditional Carolinian and Chamorro Cultural activities, and healthy ballroom dancing.
