PICRC announces 2010 Arts N’ Tides Calendar competition

This year’s theme is Life in the Seagrass, according to Carol Emaurois, Head of Environmental Education and Public Relations Department of PICRC. “The artwork winners for this year will be used in next year’s calendar.”

“For the artwork to win, it must focus on the seagrass and the animals around it,” said Emaurois. “The purpose of this competition is simply to educate the public. It focuses on the protection of species under the law of Palau.”

Mandy Etpison, Kambes Kesolei, Adora Ngirametuker and Olga Simgeo were the judges. The overall winner received $100 in cash, the first place winners for each grade level got $75 each and the runners-up got $50 each.

First place winners for each grade level were Alijah D. Hinosa, Grade 1, Koror Elementary School; Arden Ngircheungel, Grade 2, George B. Harris Elementary School; Maki D. Recheked, Grade 3, Ngaremlengui Elementary School; Miel DalmelleiSegueira Holm, Grade 4, Maris Stella School; Jeradeen Subediang, Grade 5, Airai Elementary School; Erbai Ramarui, Grade 6, Ngchesar Elementary School; Meilin Chin, Grade 7, Ngaremlengui Elementary School; Anthony Suzuki, Grade 8, Koror Elementary School; Michelle B. You, Grade 9, Belau Modekngei School; Tiffany Elaine Pedro, Grade 10, Palau High School; Annette Buchefel, Grade 11, Bethania High School; and Elsei Tellei, Grade 12, Mindzenty High School.

Runner-ups were Ezra Decherong, Grade 1, Koror Elementary School; D’Jud Tamtreng, Grade 2, Ngaremlengui Elementary School; Erica Jeanne Mercado, Grade 3, Maris Stella School; Burt Bernard, Grade 4, Airai Elementary School; Elijah Subris, Grade 5, George B. Harris Elementary School; Allyn Ngirchorachel, Grade 6, Koror Elementary School; Nena George Jr., Grade 7, Airai Elementary School; Jairus Merep, Grade 8, Koror Elementary School; Harley Edeluchel, Grade 9, Palau High School; Viviancella Ken, Grade 10, Bethania High School; Aissa Saballa, Grade 11, Palau High School; and Benedict Kintaro, Grade 12, Emmaus High School.
