“I can do whatever they want me to do,” Utu Abe Malae told Variety.
CUC will announce a vacancy for the executive director’s position after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reviews the qualifications and requirements.
CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna is on vacation leave. He has resigned but will remain in his post until the governor names his successor.
Malae said he looks to Muna for leadership and advice because of the executive director’s experience.
Working with the executive and legislative branches of government is very important, and it was a task Muna performed well, Malae said.
“His experience on Capital Hill is critical — as you know we are struggling hard to pay fuel,” he added.
An accountant, Muna served as the governor’s special assistant for management and budget before being appointed to his CUC post.
Muna, for his part, said Malae is qualified to assume the executive director’s position because of his credentials and professional experience.
“The assistant director is definitely the choice I can endorse. That would be a good choice,” he said in an earlier interview.
Besides Muna’s position, CUC has six other job openings which include the post of deputy director for water and wastewater that Bruce Megarr formerly held.
The other posts are for trade assistant, meter reader, laboratory technician, in-house legal counsel and accounting technician.
