No major injuries at Micro Games

The Ministry of Health has two medical mobile teams deployed everyday to take care of the safety of athletes and guests of the Micro Games. One team is assigned at High School Gym, Palau National Gym, Asahi Baseball Field and the Track and Field. The other one takes care of the Meyuns site for the swimming, softball and tennis games.

“So far, most of the incidents that we’ve encountered are mostly minor, like ankle sprains from basketball and volleyball,” Dr. Lincoln said.

Lincoln added that except for the one incident during the first day of the Micro Games on Sunday where they had to transport someone to the hospital for dehydration, they have not treated any major injuries.

“We’re just taking care of the athletes, administering first aid and we transport them to the hospital when needed,” Lincoln said. “So far there have been no major incidents that happened. We are very fortunate.”

Every day the two teams meet at their command center at the Belau National Hospital before they depart to their respective sites.

The medical teams come to sites at 7:30 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening, when the games wrap.

Each mobile team consists of one doctor, one driver and one nurse.

“But right now, we have medical interns from Wales, United Kingdom, who are helping us out. We also have the CAT Medic Team, helping us out in Airai for the tennis,” Lincoln said.
