Letter circulates accusing Toribiong of receiving campaign money from UKIHL

Sen. Raynold Oilouch during the special session yesterday raised the alleged letter that some information from the internet accuses Toribiong of receiving $200,000 in 2008 to fund his presidential campaign.

Oilouch during the session was told by Senate President Mlib Tmetuchl that he cannot bring up issues that are unfounded.

The senator said that he is preparing a report on the matter.

The email message purportedly written by Davidson dated July 8, 2008 to Terry Griffith stated “ I am being bombarded everyday by Gov. Jackson , Ambassador Toribiong for financial assistance for their presidential campaign and up to date , Mr. Wan, Julian and I have already supported them with about $200,000.”

Toribiong was then the Taiwan ambassador.

The president in a phone interview denied that he received campaign money from Davidson.

He questioned the authenticity of the letter and doubts that Davidson could have written to Griffith about him being supported by a foreign entity.

It is against the law to accept foreign contributions for campaigns and considered an impeachable offense.

Earlier members of the Senate and the traditional chiefs called on Toribiong to reject the developer for using Palau as a staging ground for false internet and advertisement and other scandalous reports and allegations of fraud from people and companied who had business relations with Davidson and his company UKIHL in the past.

Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce Minister Jackson Ngiraingas denied the allegations and also doubted the letter.

He said that it is easy nowadays to make up stories.

“If we did receive $200,000 how can we have brought the money on Palau without being detected,” Ngiraingas stated.

He said the allegation is “absurb.”

UK Holdings is the company involved in the planned ambitious Nautilus Project in Peleliu State and Solaris City in Angaur.
