HOD OK’s change from ministries to departments

House Bill No. 8-79-6, HD1 stated that because Palau’s government structure is a presidential system and not a parliamentary system, because of this, problems have been created.

“The act of calling cabinet members “ministers” is improper because it suggest that the republic elects these positions under a different form of government. To end the confusion and reflect the true nature of the government, the Olbiil Era Kelulau finds it that it is in the best interest of the republic to rename the major executive departments and their corresponding heads,” the measure stated.

The House Committee on Judiciary and Governmental affairs chaired by Del. Marhence Madrangchar endorsed the passage of the measure in a committee report.
