Youth Affairs official slams Precinct 1 lawmakers

“I was interviewed on television, the story was in the newspapers and we received calls offering support from the community on Tinian, Rota and even as far as from Washington, but we heard nothing from even one of the representatives of our area,” an emotional Manglona told Rotarians in yesterday’s meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.

“Our representatives have our vote — our vote of failure for not even checking on what they can do from May 25 up to now,” Manglona said.

He said that the stolen computer set, valued over $2,000, contained their main software and programs that the Koblerville youth use for  homework, research projects, tutoring among other things.

“The thieves stole from kids who have nothing, and our elected officials did not even think of calling us. They should have made the effort to check on us because those kids who lost the computer are the parents of their constituents.

They [the representatives] failed our kids, they failed our parents and they failed us,” Manglona said.

No leads yet

Exactly three weeks after thieves broke into the Koblerville Youth Center, Manglona said  police have no leads or suspects yet.

He said whoever stole the computer “knew the center well and knew what they were looking for.”

“The thieves took the computer set, printer, and even the mouse pad,” he added.

Program coordinator Vernon Lee Manglona clarified that they are disappointed with the Precinct 1 representatives over this burglary incident only.

“In fairness to some of our representatives, we have been receiving support from them like free trash collection as well as donations for the youth center,” he added.

The Koblerville Youth Center serves 25 to 50 children from six to 17 years old.

Not one of the six House members from Precinct 1 could be reached for comment yesterday.
