Overstaying aliens are mostly from RP- BOI

Immigration Director Jenkins Mariur made his statement following reports that the biggest number of overstaying foreign workers are from the Philippines.

Mariur asked the Filipino community to coordinate with the Immigration office as the main purpose of the campaign is to register everybody.

Meanwhile, despite the alien registration extension being implemented by the president, the Immigration preparation is still ongoing.

Mariur said that they set all the necessary forms and equipments needed for the registration.

August 1 was supposed to be the start of alien registration but the implementation was extended until Sept. 30 since under the law the regulation does not become effective until August 15.

The new Immigration regulation was adopted by the president on July 16 and will become effective on August 15, 2010.

The president said that because the regulation does not become effective until mid-August, the extension will give all aliens adequate time to register.

The fee for the registration is $25. Anyone who is parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 years old is required to register the child.

The director, however, said that those who are members of diplomatic mission, formally recognized by the Ministry of State and their families, citizens of United States, Federated State of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands, aliens present in Palau on a tourist visa and aliens who depart Palau before the first day of September are exempt from the alien registration.
