The Council of Pilung stated in its letter that it is hoping that the welfare of the entire canoe crew would fall under the cultural purview and custodianship of the Palau chiefs.
The council members said they are “very grateful and indeed indebted for the crewmembers protection provided by the council and the unmatched kindness and support to the crew while awaiting their return home.”
