Bennetts earn 7 gold; Yvonne breaks record

In the 100 m finals however, Yvonne pulled out all the stops smashing the record she had set the previous day, winning the gold medal with 12.6 seconds and retaining her title as the Fastest Female Athlete in Micronesia.

Yvonne continued her streak, setting a new time of 26.41 in the 200 m – over a second off the old mark. Yvonne’s final record setting feat came in the 400 m where she also set a new record, sweeping all the sprints for gold.

Yvette came in 4th place in the 100 m finals. Yvette earned one of her gold medals with Yvonne when they achieved first in the 4 x 100 m along with Reylynn Sapong and Jacque Wonenberg. The twins followed up with another set of gold from the 4 x 400 m event, along with Lia Rangamar and Jacque Wonenberg.

Yvonne will return with five gold medals with Yvette, who earned two.

Aside from taking part in the CNMI’s athletics team, Yvonne will have another competition to attend to, where she stands to win another gold medal with the women’s basketball team. They are set to play the winner between Guam and the Marshall Islands on Tuesday.

Ambrose & Lillian Bennett are currently in Palau to see Yvonne and Yvette, and to support the CNMI’s delegation.

Ambrose and Lillian stated, “We are extremely proud of both daughters and we are especially glad to see Yvonne accomplish her goals to remain on track to become a world class sprinter and hopefully to one day become an Olympian representing the CNMI.”
