In Presidential Proclamation No. 10-24, Toribiong honored Meyar who he described as a person who “ carried out his responsibilities as a member of the House of Delegates with diligence, courage and dignity which contributed to the advancement of our nation and welfare of the people of his state of Peleliu.”
Toribiong also ordered a five-day national mourning for Meyar which started on Friday, Aug. 20.
Meyar, who is remembered as contributing tremendously to Palau’s tourism industry passed away last August 13 at the age of 61.
Delegate Meyar attended Koror Elementary School during his childhood years. He also attended Intermediate High School and moved on to Palau High School where he graduated in 1969 earning a Diploma. In 1971, he went on to further his education at Forestry College in Papua New Guinea where he graduated in 1973.
Meyar was also honoered by his colleagues at the HOD .
Meyar was elected to the House of Delegates of the Fourth Olbiil Era Kelulau on September 1995, succeeding late Delegate Humio T. Kebekol, and assumed the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Tourism.
In the incumbent Sixth Olbiil Era Kelulau, the Delegate chaired the Committee on Tourism.
He also served as Vice Chairman of the Commerce & Trade Committee, and as member of the Committees on Ways & Means; Capital Improvement Projects; Banking & Corporations; Resources & Development and Foreign Affairs
Meyar is survived by his wife Faustina, four children, six grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters.
