The archives office is also supported by NMC’s long-time archives specialist, Tonny Goobad, who will remain on staff to assist interested individuals access historic records and information stored on microfilm, NMC said.
Citing health reasons, Del Rosario submitted a letter on June 1 to “resign and retire” as director of the CNMI Archives effective June 30 after 26 years of service.
NMC acting interim President Barbara Merfalen said the college will work expeditiously to find a replacement and carry on the important work Del Rosario will leave behind.
“The college is proud of Mr. Del Rosario’s service and many contributions to the college community and the CNMI,” she said in a statement e-mailed to the Variety.
“He will be missed by many, especially by his colleagues in the Division of Student Services and library patrons who have come to rely on his expertise,” she added.
The Covenant negotiation papers, constitutional convention records, and other NMI historical, legal, political documents of archival value can be found in the archives.
