Man in sexual abuse case to start jail term

Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja directed Pinaula, 36, to report to the Department of Corrections on April 19.

He is expected to be released from prison on April 12, 2014.

Pinaula was given credit for seven days time already served in Nov. 2008.

He is ineligible to be considered for parole for the first three years of his jail term, Naraja said.

He sentenced Pinaula to 10 years imprisonment, all suspended except for four years, to run concurrently for two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

Naraja said the crime involving sexual molestation of a child by an adult is a seriously complex crime as he directed Pinaula to undergo psychiatric or psychological evaluation and treatment.

Assistant Attorney General William Downer prosecuted the case while Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley represented Pinaula.
