Participants of the workshop will have the opportunity to learn about the different techniques and equipments used during the process of artificial insemination of pigs.
Presentations will also include lectures exposing the advantages and the disadvantages of the technology, current practices in the U.S. commonly used during insemination, heat detection and timing of insemination, semen handling procedures, and broad overview about the various facilities that conduct research on the science of insemination.
Organizers of the event are humbled to present two very distinct individuals as guest speakers: Dr. Allan Sabaldica, an animal scientist, and Captain Ernest Torres, a certified cattle and swine artificial insemination technician.
According to Sabaldica, artificial insemination can contribute to improvement of swine genetics in the Marianas which, in turn, will improve quality and marketability of meats in the region.
“Artificial insemination is the base for a sustainable pork industry in the CNMI in the long run,” said Sabaldica.
“We urge the public, in particular Tinian residents, to take advantage of this workshop and to absorb the useful information that will be disseminated,” said NMC interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera.
The workshop was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.
