CUC and DPS will enter into a memorandum of understanding delineating each other’s obligations, he added.
“We have different missions to fulfill. The fire division’s mission is to protect the property while our mission is to protect the water from contamination,” he said.
Without a written permit, the use of a fire hydrant or tampering or taking of water from it for purposes other than fire protection is prohibited, Iglecias said.
Variety was told that government offices like the mayor’s office, the Department of Public Works, the Division of Parks and Recreation and some private water haulers are drawing water from fire hydrants.
Only the fire stations in San Roque, Kagman, Garapan, Susupe, and Koblerville are allowed to use the fire hydrants on island.
