Airai State Legislature Speaker Mason Whipps said the session will start at 7 p.m. He said that the appointment of the Committee Chairmanship, Vice-chairman and Members of different Legislative committees will be in the agenda. Whipps also said that in the agenda is the supplemental budget which is up for first reading.
As a Speaker, Whipps said he has an authority to appoint or designate who will be the officers and members of the legislative committees. However, Whipps refused to name names as the list have not yet been finalized.
On April 5, legislators- elect together with Gov. Victoria Kanai took their oath administered by Land Court Judge Rosemarie Skebong at the Airai State Office.
On the same time, legislators convened for a short session and elected their officers for the 6th ORN. Whipps was elected as the Speaker while legislator David Orrukem elected as the Vice-Speaker and legislator Edna Raymond was the Floor leader.
The 6th ORN is composed of 15 legislative members. Six of them are Hamlet representatives and nine of them are at-large.
