This year’s qualifier for young athletes from eight years old to 18 years old started last April 5 and concluded last Monday.
Jacque Wonenberg led the U18 Girls in the 100-meter sprint finishing 13.16 seconds followed by Rachel Abrams who completed the dash at 13.75 seconds.
Wonenberg, a senior student of Marianas High School also dominated the long jump going 4.57 meters far and Lia Rangamar placed second with 4.43 meters.
Reylynn Sapong beat Jasileen Iglesias of Kagman High School in the 1,500 meter, finishing 6:33.6. She also led the MHS girls in the 4×100 finishing it in 56.90 minutes.
Dennis Ngirchongor also of MHS topped the 100-meter dash for U18 Boys with 11.38 seconds time while Ryan Ichihara was just nine seconds behind to be in the second spot and Jim Lacsina settled for second with 11.75 seconds.
Ngichorngor and Ichihara also led the 200-meter run with 23.97 and 24.10 seconds respectively.
In U14 Girls, Xuan Jun Lu of Saipan Community School beat her school mate, Lydin Johnson by 33 seconds in the 100-meter run. Johnson however, made it up in the long jump getting 3.00 meters far to win first place.
Joan Reyes who showed great potential in the recent Cross Country run, was the fastest in the 200-meter run.
The Hopwood Junior High student finished the sprint in 33.50 as she came over two minutes ahead of SCS’ Xuan Lu Ju who completed it in 35.48 seconds.
Reyes also led the 1,500-meter run 7:16.3 minutes beating Johnson who had it in 7:55.1 minutes.
Brianna Fajardo of SCS was the only runner in the 4×100 relay finishing it in 1:10.6 minute.
In the U14 Boys, Brandon Philip of Saipan Southern High School beat SCS’ Chris Lam by a wide gap in the 100-meter run. Philip finished 11.85 seconds while Lam had it in 13.42 seconds.
Philip defeated Lam again in the 200-meter with 25.25 seconds, against the latter’s 27.75 seconds.
Lia Rangamar also of MHS threw the farthest distance in the U18 shot put with 8.80 meters. She also hurled the fastest discuss at 22.83 meters.
Savali Talalemotu of Kagman High School hurled the fastest discuss at 26.76 meters and Kroy Ogo also of KHS won first place in shot put at 9.57 meters distance.
In the U14 discuss throw, Eron Constante won the first place with 21 meters, and in shot put with 7.65 meters.
Greg Duatin dominated the long jump in the U18 Boys as he leaped 5.75 meters far.
Chris Lam took the first slot in the U14 long jump with 4.51 meters.
