Aging Office to reform advisory council election rules

She has  noted some deficiencies in the council’s financial management.

In the previous years, she said the council failed to record accurately its  financial entries for auditing purposes.

There was a lapse in record keeping, she added.

The council generates its income from donations, fund raising events and  bingo games at the Office on Aging.

To correct deficiencies, Mondala urged the manamko’ to elect  persons capable and qualified to serve on the council.

The election will be held on Aug. 31.

Mondala said to help the manamko’  vote wisely, there will be a pre-screening of candidates.

“I want to make sure the candidates are committed to serve,” she added.

She will ask each candidate what he or she can offer to the council.

Moreover, the pictures of the candidates will be on the ballot.

In past elections, come congregates voted for the “wrong” person.

“This happened because they voted according to names, and some candidates had similar names,” Mondala said.

After the election, she said she will ask the newly elected officers to coordinate with her office regularly.

“I am concerned because I run the manamko’ center and whatever happens to the council will affect the center,” she said.
