Court sentences 3rd suspect in major ‘ice’ haul

Visiting Judge Mark W. Bennett of the Northern District of Iowa, also placed Chun Mei Lin on three years of supervised release after her release from prison.

Lin pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

She will receive credit for the time she served since her arrest in Aug. 2009.

Lin will be turned over to an authorized U.S. immigration official for deportation proceedings.

She will be barred from entering the Unites States without the permission of the secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

If deportation fails and Lin is released pending further immigration proceedings, the court said she will immediately report to the Federal Probation Office.

The court ordered her to perform 100 hours of community service under the direction of the Federal Probation Office, and to immediately pay the special assessment fee of $200 after sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto prosecuted the case while Lin was represented by court-appointed attorney Colin Thompson.

Lin and three other defendants were arrested by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the local police last year.

Seized was over a kilo of “ice,” worth over $500,000.

The federal court has already sentenced Sheng Lian to 135 months jail term, and Ya Bin Huang to 36 months with credit for the time he already served in jail.
