Liberation float and parade committee chairman Donald C. Crisostomo yesterday said different ethnic groups will join the festivities.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, 39 groups of marchers and five floats had signed up for the parade.
Crisostomo expects Falun Dafa to again have the highest numbers of participants in the parade — 150.
But there will be no U.S. Air Force fly-by this year, and it is a local biker’s group that will officially open the parade.
In the float competition, the prizes for first, second and third places are $1,500, 1,000 and $500.
Crisostomo said they will strictly monitor the flow of the parade to avoid long gaps.
He said participants are allowed five minutes to perform in front of the reviews stand.
The starting point and staging area will be at the Quartermaster intersection on Beach Road.
The parade route will be closed at 9:30 a.m. and the parade will start promptly at 10:30 a.m. from the National Office Supply and end at the Kristo Rai Church.
Crisostomo said personnel from the Saipan mayor’s office in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety will provide crowd control and ensure safety as well as smooth traffic.
