Salt Lake City Immigration Court Judge Dustin B. Pead is on island for two weeks to conduct hearings.
Pead heard the cases of Song Feng Lin, Ave Sahagun Ladringan, Minto Minto, Faustino Joe Elias, Maria Luisa Sison Villanueva, Fengrong Zheng, Albert S. Johnny, Lester Serrilo, Isidro C. Doctolero, Maria Pascual Mejia, Rongui Li, Juyel Ahmed, Mariano Angkel Shiano, and Pedro Buenaventura Velarde.
Assistant Chief Counsel Mindy Hoeppner is representing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Legal assistant Catherine Grover said about 15 caseloads expected daily for “master hearings,” or the respondents’ initial appearance. Either one or two individual hearings are to be heard later in the day.
Pead was appointed as an immigration judge in March 2008.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1995 from the University of Utah and a juris doctorate in 1998 from the University of Miami School of Law.
From 2003 to March 2008, Pead served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Salt Lake City.
From 2002 to 2003 and from 1999 to 2001, he worked as an attorney advisor of the Board of Immigration Appeals.
From 2001 to 2002, Pead served as immigration counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
From 1998 to 1999, he was a judicial law clerk of the Seattle Immigration Court.
Pead is a member of the Utah Bar.
