Sumit Dhakal was upset when his wife requested him to help her son who was doing his home work on Wednesday night, according to an affidavit filed by Detective Peter A. Aldan in court.
Dhakal left home and returned drunk, the affidavit added.
At about 2 a.m. on Thursday, while sleeping in their room, Dhakal approached his wife, and punched the cut on her left ankle that was wrapped with gauze and bandage, the affidavit stated.
It added that Dhakal continued punching the victim’s back and chest area several times only to be stopped by their son.
The victim then sought a neighbor’s help and called for police assistance.
Responding officers arrested Dhakal.
On Friday, Associate Judge Ramon V. Manglona imposed $5,000 cash bail on Dhakal who was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Dockter represented the government while Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller was appointed as Dhakal’s counsel.
