On Tuesday, Sgt. Vicente Sablan, Neighborhood Watch Task Force, chairman, discussed their programs on KKMP radio station.
Sablan encouraged community members to join as volunteers and cited as among the group’s accomplishments the distribution of trash bins in different villages.
But he said they have yet to go on foot patrol in all the villages.
Ramon B. Camacho, Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chairman and one of the prime movers of the task force, thanked KKMP for giving them free airtime.
He said they were given at least 30 minutes to discuss their program on air radio every Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m.
Since last week, he said they have been conducting an information drive through KKMP which is heard on 92.1 FM and 1440 AM.
Each week, task force block captains take turns in discussing their programs on air.
Camacho said he also met Catholic church officials to seek their help in disseminating information about the task force.
“Many of the priests that I talked with were very accommodating,” he said, adding the church wants to feature the task force program in its publication, North Star.
Frank Camacho, Dandan block captain and the Neighborhood Watch Task Force Inc. chairman, said they have received positive feedback from the community, but only a few want to join the group.
“This is the most difficult challenge faced by block captains,” he added.
Yesterday, during its regular meeting in the Saipan Chamber of Commerce conference room, task force officials agreed to finalize setting up billboards in all villages.
By the end of this year, all villages should have at least one task force billboard, said its consultant William S. Torres.
He said they will eventually have four billboards in each precinct on island.
In Dandan, Camacho said they installed the billboard two years ago.
Janice Tenorio, block captain for Chalan Kanoa, said they are ready to install the billboard pending the approval of the regulatory agency.
Sablan asked the other block captains to identify the locations in their precincts where they can install billboards.
