Hopwood’s volleyball victory attributed to school’s wellness program

“Hopwood continues to engage its students such programs to keep them healthy and active,” he added.

He said Hopwood Team I defeated six other squads from private and public schools.

Wellness activities, he added, also help prevent students from getting into trouble and engaging in unproductive activities.

“The program is very important because this is how we help build the skills of students as they transition from junior high to high school,” he said.

Barcinas said Hopwood has several potential great athletes and he hopes they will continue their participation in sports so they can one day represent the CNMI in international events and get college scholarships.

He said Hopwood takes its physical education and extracurricular activities seriously.

“Nothing is impossible in this world. Anything is possible,” he added.

Barcinas said Hopwood will continue to promote good sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle.

In the recent Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization, however, Barcinas said not a lot of schools participated.

It would be more exciting if all schools join the competition next year, he said.

He congratulated  the members of Hilitai I and Hilitai II for winning the championship and second place, respectively.

Hilitai, the  Chamorro word for the monitor lizard, is Hopwood’s mascot.

Barcinas also thanked the coaches, the school administration and the parents for supporting the Hopwood teams.
