He said the municipal government is going through the process which includes a survey of the geological and historical aspects of the site.
The project will affect private lands and this is why the municipal government is communicating with the landowners for possible land exchange or compensation deals, the mayor added.
Mendiola said they may seek financial assistance from the federal government.
At present, he said they are addressing the administrative order of the Division of Environmental Quality to comply with the landfill operating requirements.
DEQ ordered an end to the burning of waste at the Rota dumpsite and announced a fine of $100 per violation per day.
Mendiola said they haven’t paid any fine as the municipal government is trying to comply with the order.
