Paradise Island Animal Hospital received a gift from Santa on Christmas Eve in the form of seven adorable new Boonie puppies birthed by a dropped-off stray dubbed by staff as “Mama.”
The island’s newest mother and babies are doing well and are healthy and ready for loving homes to begin their New Year of life.
Dr. Edgar G. Tudor, DVM, owner of the animal hospital, welcomes islanders to drop-in for a look and a cuddle with Santa’s babies at his veterinary practice on Middle Road.
As for pet advice to take into the New Year, Tudor advised it was much cheaper in the long-term to vaccinate your animals and ensure they undergo a yearly check-up to maintain optimum health.
“Healthy animals eat less and end up costing an owner substantially less over their lifetime…feed them the best food you can afford and you’ll be rewarded with a happy and healthy companion and guard dog.”
With regard to store-purchased flea, tick and heartworm treatments Tudor offered a cautionary thought.
“Over the counter pet treatments simply aren’t strong enough for tropical climates…we treat animals everyday that were given the pills or ointment and they just don’t work.”
The island’s only animal doctor advised residents to come in anytime and receive cost-effective pest and worm solution advice for a New Year filled with healthy licks and hugs.
