September car sales down by 28%

In August, the decline was 49.09 percent.

A report from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association yesterday disclosed that the CNMI’s three car dealers sold a total of 36 brand new vehicles last month. They sold 50  in Sept. 2010.

Last month’s brand new vehicle sales consisted of 16 sedans, 5 trucks, 5 vans and 10 sport utility vehicles.

Microl Corp. took the lead by selling 23 brand new Toyota vehicles, representing 47.22 percent share in the market. Joeten Motors followed with 18 or 36.11 percent of the market share, while Triple J Motors sold 9 for 16.67 percent of the market share.

Toyota is once again the top  brand of choice with 23 units sold, followed by Ford with 7, Nissan 6, Mazda 4, Honda and Suzuki 3 each, Kia and Hyundai 2 each.

From January to September this year, the three car dealers sold 320 brand new vehicles, a decline of 30.89 percent from last year’s total sales of 463 during the same nine-month period.

This year’s total car sales comprised of 124 sedans, 71 trucks, 28 vans, 92 sport utility vehicles, and 5 others.

Microl Corp. led with 120 units sold, claiming 37.5 percent of the market share from January to September. Joeten Motors followed with 116, representing 36.25 percent of the market share while Triple J Motors had 84, representing 26.25 percent of the market share.

The three car dealers sold 29 used vehicles last month, bringing to 206 the total used cars sold from January to September.

Triple J Motors topped the sales with 80 units sold for the nine-month period, followed by Microl Corp. with 73 and Joeten Motors with 53.

Joeten Motors distributes Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other car brands. Triple J sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and other brands, while Microl Corp. is the local dealer of Toyota and Chevrolet.
