The case has now been transferred to the West New Britain Police to investigate.
George Dagoya, Gibson Gideon, Leonard Vavana, Lydia Petrus, and Tania Oakiva were last seen on the morning of Aug. 1 in the waters off Talasea. They were in a 23 foot banana boat, accompanied by three locals, including the boat’s skipper.
Director of Provincial Disaster Office,Leo Makmani said they have received a lot of unsubstantiated information on their sightings, one of which was the discovery of a boat and two bodies on islands in East Sepik province.
Makmani says relatives of the missing have been informed of the latest development.
