Former Rep. Edwin P. Aldan and former CDA board member Tom Glenn Quitugua were officially sworn in as CDA board’s new members.
Aldan told Variety, “I’m pretty excited. It’s my first day and I’m trying to get my feet wet.”
He said he is cognizant that the agency is facing a tough year ahead as it sees a decline in its portfolio and collections.
“We have to strive not only to collect but also to try help our customers,” said Aldan adding that he would encourage the CDA board to make a concerted effort to assist the struggling small businesses to get back on track.
For Aldan, it’s a concern for him that those who obtained loans in the past have either packed up or have their properties foreclosed.
Quitugua also expressed his excitement and optimism with his confirmation.
“I am humbled by the appointment by the governor and the lt. governor,” said Quitugua adding that he looks forward to working cohesively with the other CDA members and officials whom he had worked with in the past.
“I think we have always maintained that closeness. It’s exciting to be part of the board again,” he said.
He said hopefully the CDA can stimulate the economy once more.
“Now with a full board, hopefully there won’t be any more delays with decisions and activities.”
The Senate last week unanimously decided in favor of confirming their appointments.
The seven-member CDA board is now composed of Chairman Pedro I. Itibus, Marcie Tomokane, Edwin Hofschneider, Edward Sablan, Diego Songao, Quitugua and Aldan.
The board also reported yesterday that the agency is looking for a new comptroller as its current comptroller Stuart B. Smith has decided he will no longer be renewing his contract that ends in December.
Smith told Variety that he informed the board of his decision a couple of months ago.
“It’s better to give other people a chance to make a contribution for the benefit of CDA,” he said.
