Mayor Donald G. Flores said the survey is part of a grant application he will submit to the federal government.
On Friday, the mayor’s office installed a new basketball board at the government-run MIHA housing area in Koblerville.
His office also donated four basketballs.
Accompanied by Northern Marianas Housing Authority corporate director Joshua Sasamoto, the mayor said they will further develop the Koblerville basketball court for which NMHC will donate paint.
The basketball board was installed in collaboration with attorney Bruce Berline, Flores said.
The mayor said is hoping that lawmakers will help install lighting fixtures at the court.
Flores said they saw that the basketball board was already “worn out” during their information campaign for the dog tagging program.
One of the Miha Koblerville community leaders, Mike Daikichy, said the basketball board was “totally damaged” five years ago.
“We really appreciate the effort of the mayor. This project is for the new generation so they will stay away from any unproductive activities,” he said.
Terry Sitae, a Koblerville resident, said: “I am happy they fixed the basketball board so many people can play and I will not be lonely.”
Ron Sablan, another resident, said the basketball court is a great help to the people in MIHA housing especially the children.
He said their group will help maintain and clean the court.
As soon as sports facilities are developed in all the villages, Flores said his office will encourage basketball tournaments.
