Team DFS capitalized on an eight-point lead and defeated Shirley’s, 82-71 for their sixth win at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
The late-game beating wasn’t a good sign for the hosting team, who recently won their first regular season game against Grillin’ on Sunday.
Guiab scored five points in the final quarter and earned 14 overall with 15 rebounds. Lizama, who also tallied 14 points, had 11 rebounds. Guiab helped seal the game on a three-point field goal to drive the last nail in team Shirleys’ coffin on Tuesday night.
DFS maintained their lead after grabbing a 24-9 lead in the first quarter, allowing only two points from Ehroll Peredo and three from Kae Bernardo.
Lizama focused on the defense after opening up with eight points, shooting twice in the second and third periods. His only steal came from a loose ball dropped by Abuel, who eked out his first basket behind the three-point line. Abuel tallied eight rebounds with two assists and two steals.
DFS advanced, 59-49 nine minutes into the third quarter and added three points from Dan Barcinas’ basket. He tallied five rebounds and stacked nine points while Quincy Johnson scored eight.
A 20-point rally finished Shirley’s off, with Bernardo going scoreless in the entire second half. JR Barrios, desperate to catch up, knocked his second triple six minutes into the fourth quarter and settled for five more points. Barrios top scored at 24 points.
