The Jets took care of the game early as they outscored Laguna, 25-8, in the opening period.
Laguna, which only had four players on the scoreboard that quarter, couldn’t stop the Jets’s balanced scoring attack led by Melvin Cadiang who outscored Laguna by himself with nine points in the first.
The second quarter saw a much stronger effort by Laguna, which more than doubled their first quarter score with 19, but the Jets weren’t slowing down as they scored another 25 points led by their top-gunner Sahj Hossain’s 16 points in the period to go up, 50-27, heading into intermission.
After a getting an earful from their coach, Laguna came out of halftime a better team, getting stops via their man-to-man defense and capitalizing on fastbreak opportunities.
The Jets, however, reacted quickly and got into some isolation sets to free up their shooters and stretched their lead to 27 going into the final ten minutes of play.
Once the fourth quarter began, Laguna was determined to carry their play from the third to the fourth. But with miscues on defense, no security of the defensive boards, and botched free throws from fragrant fouls, they allowed the Jets to break open the game.
The Jets scored 23 in the final quarter and finished off Laguna in an impressive 35-point lopsided victory.
The Jets’ Hossain was the game’s top-scorer with 28 big points. Eugene Manglona contributed a good 19, while Cadiang had 13.
The two Macahito’s, Frank and Gary, led the way for Laguna with 11 points. They were the only ones in double-figures for their team.
With the win, the Jets are now 1-1 for the season.
This is Laguna’s second straight blowout loss in as many games. Their first loss was to MDX-Armatech.
