Joeten-Kiyu library computer classes full

He is happy with the increased interest in computer classes.

“We only used to have four to six students before, but now, all the computer slots are full and some people are even using their own laptops,” Rechebei added.

He said the free computer classes start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. but they sometimes extend the hours to accommodate  students.

Rechebei said those who are interested to enroll in the free computer classes will have to wait for further announcement.

“When the current batch is finished, we will open the slots for a new batch of students,” Rechebei said.

Most of the current students are adults who are leaning about Microsoft Office Word, Spreadsheet, Excel, and other basic computer operations.

The ITC operates under a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The ITC is provided with 19 Linux Ubuntu-based computer units, one table for laptop users and one network printer.

Rechebei said  they would like to accommodate more students but this is a challenge because of the library staff’s limited hours of operation.

Several community members have expressed interest to avail of the free computer classes but the schedule has been a challenge. The Library Council has been campaigning for the library to return to the normal 40 hours operation each week instead of 32 hours and adjust their opening and closing time so they could extend their services to the public better.

If this happens, Rechebei said they could also adjust their schedule and move the classes until later in the evening to accommodate more students. For more information about the ITC contact Roy or Joey at 235-7315.
