According to David DLG. Atalig, one of the radio station’s founders, Betelnut Radio was one of the major sponsors who backed Yobei’s concerts for five weekends in Portland and Salem in Oregon and in northern California.
Atalig said the other sponsors were Expose Thyself Entertainment, Island Sessions TV and Kmnwlth.
“Yobei’s concerts were all well-attended with lots of people wanting more events,” Atalig said.
People from other cities wanted Yobei to perform in their areas, too.
“All in all, it was a huge success,” Atalig said.
Since they launched Betelnut Radio station in October last year, more and more people are tuning in every day.
“To date we have had over 65,000 hits since we’ve started in Oct. 2010. Our website and Facebook site keep growing daily,” Atalig said.
They also now have iPhone and android applications through which listeners can tune in via their mobile devices.
“Also, we have the awesome ability for our listeners to request any song in our song library and instantly, within a song or two, their request will be played. We give our listeners the controls to be our deejays,” he said.
Betelnut Radio’s song library has over 14,000 island songs from all over the Pacific.
“As you request songs, you can make a dedication message which will be posted on our website and on our Facebook wall,” Atalig said.
“We are urging our listeners to please log on to www.betelnutradio.com and review our site. Try the request feature and do check out our Facebook site,” he said.
Betelnut Radio was formed to “bring local indigenous music and memories to the world.”
