CPA Executive Director Edward M. Deleon Guerrero said they have not received any word from FAA on the status of the funding although CPA made a request that funding be available in fiscal year 2010.
CPA earlier reported that it was planning to relocate the ARFF building on Tinian to a location with a flight service station on the top floor to ensure that it complies with FAA’s required response time.
“Until a grant for the project is provided, an anticipated completion date cannot be determined,” Deleon Guerrero said in an email to Variety.
CPA received $1 million in 2005 for the design “but those funds have since been drawn down,” he added.
He said the planned relocation of the ARFF building also requires the construction of an access road.
“The access road is a part of our Airport Improvement Program listing with funding anticipated from FAA,” he added.
He told Variety there are no 702/CIP funds scheduled to be used for the relocation of the facility or for the access road at this time.
On Saipan, Phase I of the ARFF facility project was given the notice to proceed on June 13.
Deleon Guerrero said, “This is the initial design and simulated aircraft fire trainer manufacturing stage. When these items are done, another notice to proceed will be issued for actual construction.”
The project is expected to be completed in June 2013 with an overall project duration of 720 calendar days.
“With only one existing grant, CPA anticipates additional funding as the project progresses for the additional project costs,” Deleon Guerrero said.
Procurement of vehicles was included in CPA’s request for 2012 funding.
“CPA has not received word to date from FAA if money will be available. There are more critical ongoing projects at this time that take precedence funding wise,” Deleon Guerrero said.
