Chuuk voters on Saipan elect governor

The three candidates are Johnson Elimo, Redly Killion and Alexander Narruhn.

The special election was scheduled after Gov. Wesley Simina resigned following his election as member of the Federated States of Micronesia Congress, representing Chuuk.

Chuuk election officer Suta Themity, who conducted the absentee voting at the Garapan Central Park yesterday, said only those who requested absentee ballots could vote.

The Chuuk community in the CNMI has an estimated 3,000 members.

Themity said ballots were cast from 7:30 a.m.  to 5 p.m.

The conduct of the election was smooth, he added.

Three stations were set up for voters from  Faichuk, Nomoneas and Fanapi Outer Island.

It was his third time to conduct absentee voting on Saipan, Themity said.

The result would be known before midnight, he added.

Themity will return to Chuuk with the ballot box as soon as there is an available flight.

He was assisted by poll workers Casmiro Christian, Inos Kenio, George Bisek, Rodney Nemek and Francis Phylim.
