Hong not guilty of stalking, but convicted of disturbing the peace

The prosecution moved for the dismissal of one count of disturbing the peace.

Inos will sentence Hong, also known as Peter Hong, on Aug. 18, 2011.

Hong, whose bench trial lasted for two days, is currently out on bail.

Assistant Attorney General Peter B. Prestley, the prosecutor, said they respect the court’s decision.

“We are happy he was convicted on four counts of disturbing the peace. We are disappointed he was found not guilty on four counts of stalking,” Prestley told reporters.

“We commend the victim and her family for speaking out,” the prosecutor added.

The prosecution presented six witnesses.

Joseph James Norita Camacho, Hong’s defense lawyer, said: “We respect the court’s decision. We do understand this is a stressful and difficult case for the victim and her family. We are preparing for sentencing next week.”

There were text messages sent to the victim, but there was no evidence Hong made or sent those texts, Camacho said.

The victim earlier told police “that after all the drama that she had experienced for the past seven months,” she had realized that Peter Hong was stalking her and sending her text messages, when reported to police in November 2010.
